Tits Up

What does Tits Up mean?

 

Tits up is a mildly vulgar expression meaning that something is dead, like a person or an animal. It can also refer to something that is broken or malfunctioning.

Tits up은 사람이나 동물처럼 무언가가 죽었다는 것을 의미하는 약간 저속한 표현이다. 그것은 또한 깨지거나 오작동하는 것을 가리킬 수 있다.

 

It is also used as slang for an unfortunate attempt to do something, like if you failed your test, your test is “tits up”.

또한 시험에 실패하면 시험이 "끝났다"는 것과 같은 불행한 시도를 위한 속어로도 사용됩니다. 그 구절이 그 의미를 갖기 위한것은  당신이 누구에게 묻느냐에 달려 있다. 

 

Some claim that it’s because when animals, particularly mammals die, they lie in a position where their nipples are pointing upwards.

어떤 사람들은 동물, 특히 포유류가 죽으면 유두가 위쪽을 가리키는 위치에 있기 때문이라고 주장한다. 

 

Others say that it is because when planes go down, they end up upside down, with their wheels pointing towards the sky, and pilots would often say that they are “tits up”.

Last, but not least, some claim that it is a military acronym, “Total Inability To Support Usual Performance”.
